l-Baqarah : The Cow



In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

الم



Alif. Lam. Mim.
2:1

ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

dalika lkitabou la rayb fihi houdan lilmotakin

This is the Scripture whereof there is no doubt, a guidance unto those who ward off (evil).
2:2

الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ

alladina you'eminouna bi lghaybi wa youkimouna ssalata wa mimma razknahoum younfikoun

Who believe in the unseen, and establish worship, and spend of that We have bestowed upon them;
2:3

والَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ وَبِالآخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ

wa ladina you'eminouna bima ounzila ilayka wa ma ounzila minkablika wa bil'akhirati houm youkinoun

And who believe in that which is revealed unto thee (Muhammad) and that which was revealed before thee, and are certain of the Hereafter.
2:4

أُوْلَـئِكَ عَلَى هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

oula'ika ala houdan min rabihim wa oula'ika houmo lmouflihoun

These depend on guidance from their Lord. These are the successful.
2:5

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ

inna lathina kafarou sawoun alayhim a'andartahoum am lam tounthirhoum la you'eminoun

As for the disbelievers, whether thou warn them or thou warn them not it is all one for them; they believe not.
2:6

خَتَمَ اللّهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهمْ وَعَلَى سَمْعِهِمْ وَعَلَى أَبْصَارِهِمْ غِشَاوَةٌ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عظِيمٌ

khatama lahou ala kouloubihim wa ala sam'ihim wa ala absarihim ghishawtoun walahoum adaboun adim

Allah hath sealed their hearing and their hearts, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be an awful doom.
2:7

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ آمَنَّا بِاللّهِ وَبِالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

wa mina nnasi man yakoulou amanna bi lahi wa-lyawmi l'akhiri wama houm bi mou'eminin

And of mankind are some who say: We believe in Allah and the Last Day, when they believe not.
2:8

يُخَادِعُونَ اللّهَ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلاَّ أَنفُسَهُم وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ

youkhadi'ouna laha wa ladina amanou wama yakhda'ouna illa anfousahoum wama yash'ouroun

They think to beguile Allah and those who believe, and they beguile nonesave themselves; but they perceive not.
2:9

فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ فَزَادَهُمُ اللّهُ مَرَضاً وَلَهُم عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْذِبُونَ

fi kouloubihim maradoun fa zadahoumo lahou marada walahoum adaboun alimoun bima kanou yakdiboun

In their hearts is a disease, and Allah increaseth their disease. A painful doom theirs because they lie.

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لاَ تُفْسِدُواْ فِي الأَرْضِ قَالُواْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ

wa ida kila lahom la tofsidou fi l'ardi kalo innama nahnou mouslihoun

And when it is said unto them: Make not mischief in the earth, they say: We are peacemakers only.
2:11

أَلا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَشْعُرُونَ

ala innahoum houmo lmoufsidouna wa lakin la yash'ouroun

Are not they indeed the mischief makers? But they perceive not.
2:12

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ آمِنُواْ كَمَا آمَنَ النَّاسُ قَالُواْ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَا آمَنَ السُّفَهَاء أَلا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ السُّفَهَاء وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَعْلَمُونَ

wa ida kila lahoum aminou kama amana-nasou kalou ano'minou kama amana-ssoufaha'e ala innahoum houmou soufaha'ou wa lakin la ya'elamoun

And when it is said unto them: Believe as the people believe, they say: Shall we believe as the foolish believe? Are not they indeed the foolish? But they know not.
2:13

وَإِذَا لَقُواْ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ قَالُواْ آمَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْاْ إِلَى شَيَاطِينِهِمْ قَالُواْ إِنَّا مَعَكْمْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُسْتَهْزِئُونَ

wa ida lakou ladina amanou kalou amanna , wa ida khalaw ila shayatinihim kalou inna ma'akoum , innama nahnou moustahzi'oun

And when they fall in with those who believe, they say: We believe; but when they go apart to their devils they declare: Lo! we are with you; verily we did but mock.
2:14

اللّهُ يَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِمْ وَيَمُدُّهُمْ فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ

allahou yastahziou bihi wa yamoudouhoum fi toughyanihim ya'emahoun

Allah (Himself) doth mock them, leaving them to wander blindly on in their contumacy.
2:15

أُوْلَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرُوُاْ الضَّلاَلَةَ بِالْهُدَى فَمَا رَبِحَت تِّجَارَتُهُمْ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُهْتَدِينَ

oula'ika ladina shtaraw dalalata bilhouda , fama rabihat tijaratouhoum wama kanou mouhtadin

These are they who purchase error at the price of guidance, so their commerce doth not prosper, neither are they guided.
2:16

مَثَلُهُمْ كَمَثَلِ الَّذِي اسْتَوْقَدَ نَاراً فَلَمَّا أَضَاءتْ مَا حَوْلَهُ ذَهَبَ اللّهُ بِنُورِهِمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي ظُلُمَاتٍ لاَّ يُبْصِرُونَ

mathalouhoum kamathali-ladi stawkada naran falamma ada'at ma hawlahou , dahaba lahou binourihim wa tarakahoum fi dolomatin la yobsiroun

Their likeness is as the likeness of one who kindleth fire, and when it sheddeth its light around him Allah taketh away their light and leaveth them in darkness, where they cannot see,
2:17

صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لاَ يَرْجِعُونَ


soummoun bokmoun oumyoun , fa houm la yarji'oun

Deaf, dumb and blind; and they return not
2:18

أَوْ كَصَيِّبٍ مِّنَ السَّمَاء فِيهِ ظُلُمَاتٌ وَرَعْدٌ وَبَرْقٌ يَجْعَلُونَ أَصْابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِم مِّنَ الصَّوَاعِقِ حَذَرَ الْمَوْتِ واللّهُ مُحِيطٌ بِالْكافِرِينَ

aw kasayyibin mina ssaa'i fihi dolomaton wa ra'doun wa bark , yaj'alouna asabi'ahoum fi adanihim mina ssawa'iki hadara-lmawt , wa laahou mohiton bi-lkafirin

Or like a rainstorm from the sky, wherein is darkness, thunder and the flash of lightning. They thrust their fingers in their ears by reason of the thunder-claps, for fear of dead Allah encompasseth the disbelievers (in His guidance).
